Gas-liquid membrane contactors for carbon dioxide separation: A review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Membrane gas–liquid contactors have been developed to reduce the capital cost and energy consumption of conventional CO2 absorption stripping columns. As a hybrid technology membrane separation amine absorption, these units can improve gas process by generating 400–1500% greater mass transfer area per unit volume leading smaller equipment sizes. Regeneration occur within contactor below boiling point solvent, lower consumption. Over recent years, vast array polymeric ceramic materials considered for an solvents used including amines, potassium carbonate, ammonia amino acids. The major technical challenge with is wetting pores which reduces coefficient. However, other factors such as choice placement solvent on shell or lumen side operational temperature are also critical success. This review describes progress in terms materials, solvents, modules processes provides direction where research best be directed future enhance feasibility technology’s industrial application.

Mathematical Modeling of Gas Separation in Flat-sheet Membrane Contactors

Gas-liquid membrane contactors offer several practical advantages including high surface area per unit volume; independent control of gas and liquid velocities without any flooding, loading, weeping, or foaming, pre-determined gas–liquid interfacial area, membrane modules, capability of linear scale-up; low corrosion problems, and low operation and capital costs. Two common types of membrane co...

Mathematical Modeling of Gas Separation Process with Flat Carbon Membrane

Carbon molecular sieve membranes (CMSMs) have been considered as very promising candidates for gas separation, in terms of separation properties as well as thermal and chemical stability. Due to the numerous advantages and wide applications of carbon membranes, their application for gas separation is of special importance. Because of the importance of carbon membranes and a large number of stud...

Carbon dioxide separation with a two-dimensional polymer membrane.

Carbon dioxide gas separation is important for many environmental and energy applications. Molecular dynamics simulations are used to characterize a two-dimensional hydrocarbon polymer, PG-ES1, that uses a combination of surface adsorption and narrow pores to separate carbon dioxide from nitrogen, oxygen, and methane gases. The CO2 permeance is 3 × 10(5) gas permeation units (GPU). The CO2/N2 s...

Carbon Dioxide Separation from Flue Gases: A Technological Review Emphasizing Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as CO2 in the atmosphere is a global warming. Human activities are a major cause of increased CO2 concentration in atmosphere, as in recent decade, two-third of greenhouse effect was caused by human activities. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a major strategy that can be used to reduce GHGs emission. There are three methods for CCS: ...
